Access to health care is very much limited for street connected children. There is no real opportunity for the street connected children to develop an ongoing relationship with a health care provider since they are highly mobile and health is a lower priority, as they struggle to meet the daily demands for food and shelter.
Save Children Medical Outreach (formerly Wound Care Project for street Children) was founded in 2015 targets to support street connected children on transit to home/shelter in Mwanza city to access free healthcare services outside the hospital.
With support of medical volunteers, we conducts weekly outreaches and daily follow up of ill children in streets and refer to other facilities when needs arises. We attend various diseases including wounds,UTI, malaria, typhoid, schistosomiasis, worms etc
We also work to understand their health problems through studies and share the findings with different stakeholders in the process of helping these children.
